Prospective Marriage Visa Subclass 300

This visa is for applicant’s who intend to marry an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizien.

This visa allows the visa holder to travel to and remain lawfully in Australia for a period of up to 9 months from the date of arrival. The applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or older at the time of application;
  • Meet health and character requirements;
  • Not had a visa cancelled or an application refused while in Australia; and
  • Not have an outstanding debt to the Australian Government.

The Sponsoring Partner also needs to meet the following requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or older at the time of application;
  • Be an Australian citizen or Australia permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen;
  • Meet the character requirements; and
  • Does not exhaust the limitation on sponsorship.

Once granted, the visa holder can:

  • Stay in Australia for up to 9 months from the date of grant of the visa;
  • Include the applicant’s dependent child in the application;
  • Have full work rights while in Australia;
  • Study in Australia at his/her own expense;
  • Get married and apply for a Partner visa (Subclass 820/801) while in Australia and before the prospective partner visa expires.
